Rotary Literacy projects in Zimbabwe
Every year more children in Zimbabwe live in Child Headed Households, without adult supervision. These children are orphans whose caregivers -- perhaps elderly grandparents -- are deceased or too old and infirm to look after them. The girl above is taking care of her little brother, but no one takes care of her.
Through the Zienzele Foundation, a family in the U.S. can sponsor one of these Child-Headed Households. $300 per year pays school fees for a Child-Headed Household, supplies school books, pencils, and pens, guarantees delivery of a quarterly box of food staples (corn meal, sugar, cooking oil, peanut butter, salt, soap, and soy beans), and covers shipments of donated shoes and clothing.
YES! I would like to sponsor a Child-Headed Household.
Besides the material help they receive, the children are thrilled to know that there is a family that cares about them, even if that family is half a world away.
